  Kelly Van Wagner, MD - Internal Medicine

Dr. Van Wagner has been a Board-Certified Internist for more than 10 years, and has always provided the highest quality of care to her patients.

She graduated from the University of Nevada School of Medicine in 2000, where she completed her residency and internship in the Department of Internal Medicine. Dr. Van Wagner is a member of the American Medical Association and the American College of Physician Executives.

For 10 years she ran her own private practice, where she has become recognized as unique in her approach to providing high-quality healthcare. Her patients regularly express sincere gratitude for her genuine concern, genuine interest in them, and the personalized professional care they receive from her on every visit. It is Dr. Van Wagner's deep belief that physicians should treat the person, not just diagnose and treat an injury or disease.

Dr. Van Wagner has served as the Medical Director for multiple health insurance companies; founded a nonprofit group designed to provide patients with useful healthcare information with a focus on transparency in healthcare pricing for outpatient services; and created a wellness program focused on moving from disease management to health, wellness and prevention.

A resident of Pahrump, Dr. Van Wagner provides each and every one of her patients with personalized care of the highest quality, and is quickly becoming Pahrump's physician of choice.

  John Sorensen, MD FACS - General Surgery

Dr. Sorensen is a world-class general surgeon who is Board-Certified in General Surgery and fellowship trained in hepatobiliary and transplant surgery. Before joining the staff at Mountain Valley Physicians Group, he spent 8 years running the transplant team at the University of Utah School of Medicine.

For more than twenty years his practice has focused on general, hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, liver and kidney transplantation, laprascopic procedures including live kidney donation, and dialysis access procedures. Dr. Sorensen also has worked as a trauma surgeon at three different Level 1 trauma centers, and is a certified Advanced Trauma Life Support instructor.

Dr. Sorensen received his medical degree from the Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He completed his general surgery residency with the Western Reserve Care System, North Eastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine, and a fellowship in transplantation surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

He is a colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve Medical Corps and has served four tours of duty overseas since 2001. He and his wife are residents of Pahrump and are active in the Pahrump community.

Dr. Sorensen performs a number of procedures locally at Desert View Hospital, including general surgery, appendectomy, colonoscopy, endoscopy, breast surgeries, bowel obstructions, hernias, and gallbladder.


  David Rivas, DO - Primary Care

David Rivas, DO, is Board Certified in Family Medicine and has close to twenty years experience in the medical field. He graduated from Western University Health Sciences in Pomona, CA, and completed an internship in General Surgery at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, CA. He also completed a Residency in Family Medicine at Riverside General Hospital University Medical Center in Riverside, CA. 

His passion to deliver quality care in a multitude of settings has taken him to a wide variety of locations and sectors in healthcare, including public, private, Department of Health and Human Services, Indian Health Service, correctional facilities, psychiatric facilities, military, and more. Dr. Rivas has previously worked as a primary care physician in Pahrump, and has delivered care across the country, including Alaska, California, North Dakota, South Dakota, Missouri, and Arizona. His expertise extends to many facets of medicine, such as pediatrics, internal, adult, and emergency medicine.

Dr. Rivas has extensive experience working in rural communities, and brings with him a unique ability to understand healthcare in those areas. He is bilingual, speaking both Spanish and English fluently, and treats patients from pediatrics to seniors.

Dr. Rivas is thrilled to be back in the Pahrump Valley and to be part of Mountain Valley Physicians Group. He looks forward to delivering quality care for every patient he treats.
